if you truly knew anything about dogs, dog training and the canine heirarchy of needs, you would realize that intellegent dogs need mental stimulation and strong alpha leadership. The reason the shepherd is staying so well is because of its loyalty and devotion to its handler…who he/she wants to please. These types of excercises build the bond between dog and handler and are in no way cruel. Shepherds are loyal due to respect…which is developed and nurtured through training and discipline
