www.pamsdogacademy.com How do you get your dog to pay more attention to you? Well, start with the little things. When your dog does look at you (checks in) for no apparent reason, click and treat your dog. You will be amazed at how fast your dog will learn that looking at you really pays off. Soon your dog will check in more and more and eventually you will be more valuable than sniffing the grass, playing with another dog, etc. Make sure that you reward your dog with something that he finds valuable and make it worth his while to check in with you. This will help to get focus in distracting environments. This is also a great way to start recall training. Have fun with your dog today! Have a great day! Pam, Isabelle, Bandit, & Twix

I've just begun training my goldfish Blaze, and he's well on his way to becoming a well trained fish! We've been training using an R2 fish training kit, and so far he knows how to follow the feeding wand around the tank and how to swim through the hoop. I've been gradually making the hoop smaller, soon he'll have to squeeze to get through! To read more about our progress, please visit my blog: stalecheerios.com

Conner, a 7 month old German Shepherd, came into our Board & Train program to learn basic obedience and left with service dog skills to assist his owner. Those kinds of skills vary according to the needs of the owner. Common skills would include stable behavior under any circumstance and the ability to retrieve objects and deliver them into the owner's hand.

This video features Timothy going over the basics of how to train rats using a clicker. Please note that I haven't done a lot of clicker work with Timmy, so he doesn't really react to it. A rat who is used to training with a clicker would know what that "CLICK" sound means right away! NOTE: I made a few videos about how to train ratties for a friend of mine, and I've decided to make them public. Please be aware that I am NO actress!! I hated drama class in school, and I am NOT comfortable talking to a camera! Therefore, I apologise if I sould like a nervous wreck! LOL! Also, some of these videos are far from perfect. Unfortunately, I don't have access to any kind of video editing software, so I have to post these "as is". If I make any little mistakes, or if one of my rats doesn't do exactly what I wanted him to do, I have to re-film the video again from the beginning. I basically film each video a couple of times, and then use the best one. It should also be noted that a LOT of tips and info got left out, so I made accompanying Word documents for each video. These documents contain WAY more tips and valuable information! If interested, send me a message with your email address, and I will be happy to email the document to you. :)

www.pamsdogacademy.com OMG, I forgot to say to socialize to friendly dogs! Of all things to forget that one is huge! Please make sure that you know as a fact that the dog is friendly. Many owners will say their dog is friendly, but they are not sure or that could be the one time that the dog attacks. I have been working like crazy to socialize Twix to as many things as possible, but with work, two other dogs, and a husband; I am totally sleep deprived. :) However, I am committed to my dogs and will do everything in my power to make sure they are well taken care of and that all their needs are met daily! Twix has not shown to be fearful of many things. However, I must say that I do not believe in the notion of letting the puppy just sit there and be afraid and wait to reinforce when they are not any longer afraid. To me that seems ridiculous. If I am afraid, I want someone at my side telling me that it will all be ok. It comforts me and makes me feel better. When raising Isabelle and Bandit I bought into this and did not pay attention to them when they did have fears. Isabelle was so afraid of car rides and Bandit had fears of busses and big trucks. One day I noticed a bus coming and decided to wait and comfort Bandit (get down to his level, calmly rub his ears, and talk softly to him) and he was totally fine with the bus going by. Then one time I was too slow and did not see a big scary truck and he did get frightened. I stopped and got next to him and he snuggled right ...

Lady and I are using clicker training to learn to fetch. I think it will be fun and good exercise for her. We have started with touching my hand with her nose, then moved to touching an object in my hand. But dropping the object to the floor is a slightly bigger step. It has been hard for be to catch exactly what I want her to do, as she is trying to paw at it also. But after that we will need to move on to putting it in her mouth and then picking it up, and then bringing it to me. I would love to hear suggestions on how to ask her to pick it up. I had misplaced our Karen Pryor clicker and was using the old box type clicker. It hurt my thumb and I mistimed a few clicks because my thumb wasn't on the button. Thanks for watching BeagleDaily. Come back every day for a new video of Lady doing tricks, going on walks and being cute. Click on the videos at the end to see other episodes of BeagleDaily.

www.pamsdogacademy.com Not sure what happened to my sound, so I uploaded it again. Thank you for watching it the first time without sound! It is so important to teach a dog what to do around a cat. Especially a puppy since their first instinct might be to chase the cat. I introduce on leash and allow for sniffing and allow the cat to leave if she wants to leave. I manage behavior by having the dog on leash and not allowing him to chase, nip, or jump on the cat. Sabrina warmed up to Twix quickly as she really loves Bandit and Isabelle, so I think it was much easier for her with Twix. I reinforce all behaviors I like that are calm and respectful to the cat. I either kissy noise away from the cat if he is about to chase or I have him on leash with me. It does not take a dog long to realize that the cat is part of the family. Twix does like to jump up toward the counter where Sabrina's food is and that is another behavior that I will be showing how to fix. hehe! Dogs are awesome! Never a dull moment. Thank you so much for watching! Pam, Twix & Sabrina

www.pamsdogacademy.com All dogs get rewarded for just hanging out with each other and being calm. Bandit can tend to run around with a ball in his mouth or in search of a toy, so I am working on everyone learning to relax. Isabelle is the only one that really enjoys relaxing! Her favorite thing is to just hang out and get food. I am working on creating an on/off switch with Bandit and Twix. Bandit has a good settle and Twix is really getting there! Have a wonderful weekend! Pam, Isabelle, Bandit & Twix

www.pamsdogacademy.com This is Twix's first time on the wobble board. He surprises me at how fast he picks things up. He is not fearful of anything, except my neighbor's taking out their trash on trash day, but I have been working with that. The wobble board really helps build his confidence and it is great to have confidence on moving objects so that later on he is not afraid of the teeter in agility. I am having a BLAST working with him! He is a real sweetheart and picks up things so quickly. Must be a clicker training border collie thing! HAHA! Have a great day! Pam & Twix

www.YesYouCanTrust.com Training a dog whether it is a puppy or an older dog takes time. The first commands that a dog needs to know are sit, stay, no, lie down and come. Start with sit, then move onto stay, come and then lie down. The no command may need reinforcement, but most dog learn this command with housebreaking. It is important to be consistent and train the dog daily for about 30 minutes a day. After training, there should be a little playtime. Training a dog to sit, you will need a six-foot lead and some small dog treats. Gently pat the dog's rear as you are saying sit. As the dog sits, reward him or her with a treat. Walk the dog a few feet and repeat the command while gently pressing down on the rear. Then reward. This training should be done every day for about a week until the dog knows and performs the command After the dog has learned to sit, the next command to teach is stay. Using the lead, tell the dog to sit. After the dog sits, say good boy or girl and reward with a small treat. While putting your hand the stop position like a crossing guard does, tell the dog to stay and gradually walk back four feet while holding the lead. to learn more about how to train your dog, please visit : www.YesYouCanTrust.com

Puppy Training is shown here in my daily dog training video with my 11 month old black labrador retriever puppy in learning to stay in a designed area with the kennel door open. I train these commands with the door open because the dog has no visual barrier in front of him, and learns to stay in a place with his own decision making process. The clarity of the boundary of the kennel makes it easier for the dog to learn in it's initial stages, and transfers easier when the kennel is taken away. The command given for this exercise is simply 'Kennel' in which the dog must stay within the boundaries of the kennel. He does not necessarily have to 'sit' or lay down unless given that command as well. Sit Means Sit dog training does not use the word 'no' in any form in any of it's training.
